How One SEO Power Hour Landed FemmeX on the First Page of Google
tl;dr
After a webinar, Nell from FemmeX signed up for an SEO Power Hour. We helped the site finally break onto the first page of Google for its target keyword, increased clicks by 433%, and pinpointed areas of growth.
Meet FemmeX
FemmeX is a coworking space and social club for women in Columbia, SC founded by Nell Fuller. They offer multiple coworking options, along with weekly networking events and happy hours. The space can also be rented for weddings, showers, and parties.
Power Hour Goal
The goal for our hour was to better understand how people used the site, target UX issues that could help drive membership sales and space rentals, and implement some quick SEO wins to increase visibility.
What We Did
Dug into FemmeX (and their competition’s) Data
During our hour, we dug into FemmeX’s analytics to discover where the majority of their traffic was coming from, some of which was coming from mysterious bot traffic that was skewing the analytics. We also exported all keywords and backlinks from the website, so Nell could see exactly what she was ranking for and who was referencing her website. As a bonus, we also exported her competition’s lists, to see what they might be doing that she wasn’t yet.
Why Does The Competition’s Data Matter?
Your SEO doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Ranking for your target keyword is as easy or as difficult as being better than the site currently ranking number 1. That means the best thing you can do to win at SEO is know exactly where YOU stand and where your COMPETITION stands.
Discovered FemmeX’s Target Keyword
By looking into what the competition was ranking for, we discovered a big opportunity. While FemmeX was targeting the keyword “Cowork Space,” all of her competitors were going after “Coworking Space.”
The Results
By simply adding “ing” to FemmeX’s homepage and meta title, FemmeX jumped from the 13th position in Google to position 4. That means the website went from the second page of Google to above the fold on page 1 in less than a week from adding THREE LETTERS to a keyword.
Two months later, FemmeX is still ranking in the 4th position for their target keyword, and it has resulted in a 433% increase in clicks to their website. Not too bad for an hour of work.
